cryptocurrency.irish is an independent information website. Please read this disclaimer together with our terms of use and privacy policy. Last updated: 5 October 2026.

Not advice

Nothing on this site is financial, investment, tax, legal or accounting advice, or a personal recommendation. We do not know your finances, goals or circumstances. We do not tell you to buy, sell or hold any crypto-asset, we do not predict prices, and we do not endorse any provider. Decisions about your money are yours. If you need advice, ask a suitably qualified and, where relevant, authorised professional, and check the original sources we link, such as Revenue for tax.

We are not authorised by the Central Bank

cryptocurrency.irish is not authorised, registered or supervised by the Central Bank of Ireland or any other financial regulator, and we do not provide regulated services. We do not operate an exchange, hold customer assets, arrange transactions or give investment advice. Describing a firm's regulatory status on this site does not make us a regulator, and it is not a certification.

Risk warning

Crypto is risky. The Central Bank of Ireland says consumers could lose all their money if they buy crypto, that prices can move suddenly and extremely, and that it is not suitable as a store of value. It also says crypto is not protected by any compensation scheme, so there is no compensation if you lose some or all of your money. The Deposit Guarantee Scheme and the Investor Compensation Scheme do not cover it.

Authorisation of a provider under the EU's MiCA Regulation brings rules on conduct, custody and disclosure, but it does not guarantee that you will not lose money, that a provider will not fail, or that a particular coin will keep its value. Only invest money you can afford to lose. Be alert to scams: see our guide to crypto scams in Ireland.

Past performance

Past performance is not a reliable guide to future results. Where we mention historic prices, fees or events, it is to explain how something works, not to suggest it will happen again. Nothing on the site is a promise or forecast of returns.

Accuracy and dates

We aim to be accurate, and we date our checks, but laws, tax rates and providers change. Budget 2027 is due on 6 October 2026, and figures such as the Capital Gains Tax rate and exemption should be re-checked after it. Fees, limits, availability and regulatory status are as we read them on the date shown, from the sources cited. Some information comes from third parties such as directories or blogs, and we label it as unverified where that is the case. Always confirm important facts with the provider, regulator or Revenue before acting. How we research is set out on our methodology page.

We link to regulators, government bodies and companies. A link is not an endorsement, and we are not responsible for the content or services of any other website. The site may include outbound links to providers; this does not mean we have verified that a service is suitable for you. If you use a provider, you do so under its own terms. Check its authorisation on the ESMA register as explained in our guide to crypto regulation in Ireland.

Jurisdiction notes

The site is written for people resident in the Republic of Ireland and describes Irish and EU rules as we understand them. Different rules apply elsewhere. Northern Ireland, for instance, is under UK law, with UK regulators and tax authorities. Other services may not be available to Irish residents, and some providers restrict customers by country. Tax residence, domicile and personal facts can change the answer. The content is not intended for use where it would breach local law.

Limitation

To the extent the law allows, we accept no liability for loss or damage arising from reliance on the content of this site, as set out in our terms. Nothing here limits any rights you have as a consumer or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Questions

If you see something wrong or out of date, please tell us at contact@cryptocurrency.irish. For background on who runs the site, see about us, and for the basic legal position of crypto, our explainer on whether crypto is legal in Ireland.
